On 9 February 2023, Rikard Kinn (Aker Solutions) gave a short presentation on LINCCS’ work to develop unmanned CO₂ capture technology with low operating expenses today at the 2023 CLIMIT Summit.
Oil and gas production currently accounts for 25% of Norway’s CO₂ emissions. Therefore, this industry has an urgent need for electrification.
The power cannot be taken from shore, as this will result in high prices and insufficient power for land-based uses. Nor can we retrofit existing platforms, as space is limited, and this would be an expensive – and potentially impossible – endeavour.
Therefore, LINCCS subproject 1 “Compact, low OPEX offshore CO₂ capture” aims to develop an unmanned CO₂ capture technology with low operating expenses that can supply electricity to oil and gas production platforms.
